Beyond Montgomery
My perception was that legislators did their job and fulfilled their responsibilities in Montgomery. The truth is I spend a lot more time attending events and hob knobbing with voters and officials right here in this district than I do in Montgomery. Speaking engagements at civic, church, and community events are commonplace. I could be attending something almost every day of the week. Sometimes just showing up and being seen is all that is required. Attending ribbon cuttings and the first shovel of dirt is expected. Even when not in session, trips to Montgomery occur at least every week or so. Because our constitution focuses power in the capitol city, counties and cities, as well as individuals, often must turn to state officials to solve local problems. There are 13 schools and 6 libraries in this district and I try to visit each annually. If you would like a speaker, ribbon cutter, award presenter, or just need to fluff up attendance, give me a ring or go to the Contact page and I’ll check my schedule.
