GuffawsRecent Guffaws Referring to a candidate for governor, a Marengo county representative made the following disclaimer to the press: “This is neither an endorsement nor a dis-endorsement”. A committee chairman announced “We are going to variate from the agenda.” A fellow legislator said “The question is how are we going to corporate with each other.” A high profile senator said “We must put partisanism aside.” One representative recently elected to the senate discussed the creation of an injudent fund. A nearby representative said “exponentially it will cost a lot of money”. A fellow member of the Standing Committee on Education has said more than once “I have some real unclarity” on that issue. The same person created the word “dictorialship”. A Jefferson County legislator stated “Budgetating is a difficult process”. Having filibustered for some time a senator said “There is a tunnel at the end of the light”. A well known representative declared “That won’t happen till the cows come home from Capastrami”. A Montgomery legislator frequently uses the word “gradurated”. Did he? A party leader said something would “…resignate throughout our society.” A good pal legislator admitted on the House floor he was “confused in his mind”. A previous GOP Alabama governor was the Guest of Honor at the Talladega Raceway. When he stepped to the microphone everyone expected to hear the traditional “Gentlemen, start your engines.” What he said was “Men, crank your motors.” President Bush said the “terrorists strike with lethality”, and followed that with “you misunderestimate me.” An powerful senator said “I don’t mean to be limitatious.” A house member complimented a fellow member by commending his “negotiability”. A former high ranking church official said “emotionality will kill a church”. One of my favorite house members described a sick friends condition as “delibitating”. A master word meister in the House said the sneaky parts of the budget is not found in the spread sheet, it is in the verbacity. |
